Karen Ahrens continued

We had a great home health nurse, Maureen, who came once or twice a week and was available by phone to answer questions and help when we didn’t quite know what to do. She came once when there was an emergency and stayed with us while we were trying to figure out what should be done, then stayed till the ambulance came. She is very knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor.
It was hard at times, (especially the first couple months and wasn’t pretty as we were trying to figure things out) mostly because we weren’t doing many of the normal things needing to be done on our side of the house, and we needed family and couple time. We saw the Lord bring help when we most needed it, and we learned we needed to ask. Mark’s siblings came at different times to take over, and our kids, friends and our NCF family helped, prayed, or made meals. The men came every week to pray with Dad (that meant so much to him).
Gene and Marilyn came about 10 days earlier than they originally planned and were a great help in the last week of Dad’s life.
We are so grateful to all of you at New Covenant for all that you did before and after Dad’s passing. The beautiful and delicious meal was a huge blessing to our whole family and visitors. I know I sometimes felt overwhelmed as I was trying to work on photos and other details, so it was such a relief that we knew you all were taking care of the meal.
We also saw God’s hand in the cold weather (yes, I really said that!). Because of it, Mark had extra days off to finalize details for the burial and service.
In closing, I want to say that one of the things I most admired about Dad was his willingness to stand for what what was right and true, whether it was following scripture, speaking out against the harm of an adult bookstore, or standing up for the unborn and their moms, he didn’t seem to be concerned about the consequences. I was also blessed by his generosity.
Pastor Phil, Cathy and everyone at New Covenant, thank you so much for all you did for us and the love you poured out on us and our family.
